If I were a college student today looking for my next internship (Fall, Spring, and/or Summer) here’s how I’d conduct my search:
(with some realistic resources to use on your job hunt!)
⏳ When to start applying? Every company’s hiring timeline is different but most applications for Summer 2025 programs tend to go live late August – early October, with Spring 2025 program apps going live between September – January.
⭐️ Narrow down your search
What is it that you WANT to do? Yes, you want to work in Marketing but what kind of Marketing…Social Media? Brand? Product? You need to be specific in your search because it’ll lead you to roles you genuinely want to do.
I give a breakdown of how to do that in this post – https://lnkd.in/gtb8qpgf
⭐️ Attend information sessions
I host 100s of these events each semester on WayUp (sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gdNQuzzi) and recruiters are actively hiring from these events!
These sessions allow you to get face time with recruiters, get in a company’s talent pipeline earlier than most, be the first to find out when applications open, gain insider info (not found online!!) about their early career programs, and hear from past interns.
⭐️ Diversify your applications
Interning at big Fortune 500 companies are cool but consider checking out smaller/mid-size companies because they also offer robust and rewarding #earlycareer programs!
⭐️ Sign up for job boards created for students and recent graduates
Why spend endless hours searching for internships and other #entrylevel roles when you can go on these websites that are filled with them?
Here’s my go-to list of 10: https://lnkd.in/gfK4-EDX
⭐️ Follow LinkedIn creators who share opportunities
I post roundups of entry-level opportunities 2-3x a week (see last week’s post: https://lnkd.in/gMP8m7ms) but here are some other creators to follow who do the same in a wide range of industries: Taylor Falls, Morgan Young, Caitlin Cooke, Rahmel Bailey, Kanika Mohan, Kevin Shim
